Recovering Crypto Assets Sent To Trust Wallet Using the Incorrect Network

If you sent crypto to the wrong network address (e.g. VET to your ETH address), your funds are likely still accessible. Follow this guide carefully.

Why this happens

Many blockchains share the same address format. If you send VET to your ETH address, the funds land at that address on the VeChain network — but Trust Wallet shows your ETH wallet, not your VET wallet. The funds are not lost, just on the wrong network in your app.

Before starting: Confirm you have your recovery phrase. It is required for this process.

Step 1 — Open the Mnemonic Code Converter

Go to iancoleman.io/bip39 in your browser.

iancoleman.io/bip39 is an open-source BIP39 (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 39 — the standard that converts a recovery phrase into private keys) tool that generates private keys from your recovery phrase.

⚠️ Disclaimer: The screenshot below is for educational purposes only. Never enter your real recovery phrase on any site unless you are certain it is safe, offline, or open-source. Never share your phrase with anyone.

Step 2 — Enter your recovery phrase

In the BIP39 Mnemonic, (another word for your recovery phrase), enter your 12 or 24-word recovery phrase. field, enter your 12 or 24-word recovery phrase.

If you need help finding your phrase: Settings → Secret phrase in Trust Wallet.

Step 3 — Select the coin

From the Coin dropdown, select the network of the wallet you sent funds from. For example, if you sent VET to your ETH address, select ETH - Ethereum.

If the coin is not listed, continue to Step 5 (Derivation Path).

Step 4 — Copy the private key

Scroll to the Derived Addresses table. Your wallet address should appear near the top. Copy the Private Key from the far right column.

Step 5 — Import the private key into Trust Wallet

Import the private key into the wallet for the coin you are recovering. For example, if you sent VET to your ETH address, import the key into the VET wallet in Trust Wallet.

Step 6 - A derivation path is a formula that tells the tool which private key to generate from your recovery phrase for a specific coin and network. BIP32 is the general standard; BIP84 is used specifically for native SegWit Bitcoin addresses

If the coin is not in the dropdown — custom derivation path

  1. Select ETH - Ethereum from the Coin dropdown

  2. Under Derivation Path, select BIP32

  3. Choose Custom Derivation Path and enter the path for your coin:
