How to Utilize Decentralized Applications (dApps) with Trust Wallet

What you'll learn: How to find, connect to, and interact with a dApp (decentralized application) using Trust Wallet, using PancakeSwap as a step-by-step example.

What is a dApp?

A dApp (decentralized application) is software that runs on a blockchain network rather than a centralized server. Unlike traditional apps, dApps are trustless (no single company controls them), transparent (all activity is recorded on-chain), and censorship-resistant.

Common dApp categories include:

  • DEXs (Decentralized Exchanges) — peer-to-peer token swap platforms such as PancakeSwap (BNB Smart Chain) and Uniswap (Ethereum)

  • DeFi (Decentralized Finance) protocols — lending, borrowing, and yield platforms such as Aave and Compound

  • NFT (Non-Fungible Token) marketplaces — platforms to buy, sell, and mint digital collectibles

When you connect to a dApp, you interact with it directly using your own wallet. You retain full control of your assets at all times.

Why use Trust Wallet for dApps?

  • Built-in Discover tab — browse and open verified dApps directly inside the app without switching to an external browser

  • Trust Wallet Security Scanner — flags high-risk dApps and suspicious contracts before you interact

  • WalletConnect support — connect to any dApp that supports WalletConnect, even outside the app

  • Non-custodial — Trust Wallet never holds your funds; you sign every transaction yourself

How to connect to a dApp — PancakeSwap example

PancakeSwap is a DEX (Decentralized Exchange) on BNB Smart Chain (BSC — Binance Smart Chain, an EVM-compatible blockchain) that lets you swap tokens directly from your wallet.

The flow below shows all four steps: opening Discover → loading PancakeSwap → selecting Trust Wallet → connected and ready to swap.

→ 4-step visual flow in your browser

Steps shown :

  1. Open Trust Wallet and tap Discover in the bottom navigation menu

  2. Search for PancakeSwap or find it under the DeFi section — tap to open it

  3. On the PancakeSwap page, tap Connect Wallet

  4. A wallet selector appears — choose Trust Wallet (on mobile) or Injected (on the browser extension) — then tap Connect

  5. Approve the connection request that appears in Trust Wallet

  6. Your wallet address is now linked — enter a swap amount and tap Swap Now to execute

Always verify you are on the official dApp domain before connecting. Phishing sites use near-identical URLs to steal funds.

Security checklist before connecting to any dApp

Check

What to look for

Domain

Exact match to the official project URL — no extra characters or hyphens

Connection type

Trust Wallet (mobile) or Injected (extension) — never paste your secret phrase

Transaction details

Review every transaction before signing — amount, token, and contract address

Approval scope

Avoid unlimited token approvals unless you trust the contract fully

Revoke approvals

Use revoke.cash to remove approvals from dApps you no longer use

Warning: Interacting with a malicious dApp can result in permanent loss of funds. Trust Wallet cannot reverse blockchain transactions.

FAQs

What does "Connect Wallet" actually do?
Connecting your wallet to a dApp shares your public wallet address with the dApp so it can display your balances and request your signature on transactions. It does not give the dApp access to move your funds without your approval on each transaction.

Is connecting to a dApp the same as giving it access to my funds?
Connecting your wallet to a dApp does not automatically grant the dApp permission to move your funds. Each transaction and token approval requires a separate signature from you inside Trust Wallet.

Can I disconnect from a dApp after connecting?

Yes — you can disconnect from a dApp at any time.

  1. In the latest version of the Trust Wallet homepage, select the Approvals tab in the assets section, review your active approvals, and tap Revoke for any dApp you no longer trust or that is flagged as risky.

  2. You can also revoke token approvals at revoke.cash.

What is the difference between Trust Wallet and Injected when connecting?

When connecting on the mobile app, select Trust Wallet from the wallet selector. When connecting via the browser extension, select Injected — this refers to Trust Wallet's extension injecting itself into the browser as a web3 provider.
