Introduction:

Trust Wallet uses a 12-word Recovery Phrase (also called a secret phrase or seed phrase) to protect and restore your wallet. Think of it as your master key. Anyone who has it can access the coins and tokens in your wallet, and you can use it to get your wallet back at any time.

This guide explains when and how to restore your wallet, and what to do afterward to keep it safe.

1. What a Recovery Phrase is and what you need before you start:

To restore your wallet, you will need:

  • The Trust Wallet app, downloaded from an official source

  • Your 12-word Recovery Phrase, with the words in the correct order.

  • A few quiet minutes in a private place, away from other people and cameras.

⚠️ Important: Only download Trust Wallet from official sources: the App Store, Google Play, or trustwallet.com/download. Unofficial apps can steal your funds.

2. When might you need to restore your wallet?

You may need to restore your Trust Wallet if you:

  • Reinstalled the app after deleting it

  • Accidentally deleted your wallet and want to bring it back

  • Got a new phone or tablet, or your old one was lost, stolen, or broken

  • Want to access the same wallet on more than one device

💡 Forgot your passcode instead? You don’t need to restore your wallet in every case. See Setting Up or Resetting a Security PIN on Trust Wallet.

3. Step-by-step: how to restore your Trust Wallet.

Follow these steps to restore your wallet with your 12-word Recovery Phrase:

1. Open the Trust Wallet app.

2. Select I already have a wallet.

3. Choose Secret Phrase (Seed) as your recovery method.

4. Type in your 12-word Recovery Phrase exactly as it was originally written (correct spelling and order are required).

5. Enter a wallet name and choose an icon.

6. Tap Continue to restore your wallet.

That’s it! Your wallet and its supported assets will be restored.

🔒 Never share your Recovery Phrase with anyone. Anyone who has it can control your wallet.

4. What to do if something doesn’t look right

  • The app says your phrase is invalid. Check each word for spelling mistakes, make sure the words are in the correct order, and remove any extra spaces.

  • Your balance shows zero. Wait a moment for the wallet to sync, check your internet connection, and make sure the correct network is selected. You may also need to add the token manually.

  • You see a different wallet address than expected. This usually means a different Recovery Phrase was entered. Try again with the phrase you originally saved for that wallet.

5. What if I lost my Recovery Phrase?

Trust Wallet is a self-custody wallet, which means only you hold your Recovery Phrase. Trust Wallet cannot see it, reset it, or recover it for you.

If you can still open your wallet on your current device, back up your phrase right away by following How to Backup Your Recovery Phrase in Trust Wallet.

If you no longer have access to the wallet or the phrase, your funds cannot be recovered. This is why safe backup matters so much.

🚨 Beware of scams: Trust Wallet Support will never ask for your Recovery Phrase. Be careful with fake support accounts, direct messages, and websites that ask you to “verify” or “validate” your wallet. Anyone who asks for your phrase is trying to steal your funds.

6. Tips to keep your wallet secure after recovery

  • Store your phrase offline. Write it on paper or on a metal backup plate, and keep it somewhere safe and private. Don’t save it in emails, cloud storage, notes apps, or screenshots.

  • Never type it into websites or send it in chats. The only place to enter your phrase is the official Trust Wallet app when restoring your wallet.

  • Remove the wallet from old devices. If you sold, lost, or stopped using a device, delete the wallet from it. Make sure your phrase is safely backed up first. See How to Safely Delete a Wallet in Trust Wallet.

  • Keep the app updated. Use the latest version of Trust Wallet for the newest features and security improvements.

    Conclusion:

Restoring your Trust Wallet is simple when you have your 12-word Recovery Phrase. Follow the steps above, double-check each word, and keep your phrase private and stored offline. Doing this will help keep your assets safe and within your control.
